Our partner, CERTH presented BIOLOC project at the at the BIOTRANSFORM Bioeconomy Info Day in Kozani on March 15th, 2023 The discussion focused on the Regional Strategy for Social Integration of Western Macedonia and on the socially vulnerable groups identified therein.
The event represented an opportunity to link the regional context to BIOLOC’s project activities, which are no other than to advance the role and impact of social innovation to revitalise European local communities and accelerate the transition to the circular bioeconomy (CBE). In this context, after assessing the biomass potentials and CBE value chains in all participating regions and analysing barriers that hinder the engagement of the socially disadvantaged groups in related economic activities, BIOLOC will elaborate on innovative solutions and business models and transpose them into region-specific toolsets.
The Info day was organized by the Cluster of Bioeconomy and Environment of Western Macedonia (CluBE), under the auspices of the Rural Development Department of Western Macedonia, with the support of the Regional Branch of the Geotechnical Chamber of Greece (GEOT.E.E./P.D.M.) and in the context of the Horizon Europe project BIOTRANSFORM.
BIOTRANSFORM aims to accelerate the transition from the linear economy and linear fossil-based systems to the circular bioeconomy and circular bio-based systems.
The Info day was attended by policy-makers and business representatives of the Region of Western Macedonia as well as members of research and educational institutions. As part of the event, an open discussion took place regarding the ways in which policy makers and other regional stakeholders can benefit from the bioeconomy development prospects.
